2. Lesson Opening:
We have been talking about food in this unit. Food is something you can eat. So what do you do with food? That’s right! You eat food. I am going to read you the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This time when, I read the story I want you to listen for the number of fruits the caterpillar eats. It is important to know how much you eat so you don’t get sick. If you eat too much at one time you get a tummy ache. Let’s listen in the story for the number of fruits the caterpillar eats. When I read the story I will put the story cards in order with the numbers to help everyone remember how many. At the end of the lesson you will take turns with a friend by touching the numbers on the computer to retell how many fruits the caterpillar ate.

4. Lesson body:

Discuss prior knowledge and lessons of homes compared to grocery stores.
Then pair same and differences.
LEAD: Teacher guided problems/discoveries (guided practice)
After the read aloud, we will make choices together on the number of fruits the caterpillar ate in the story. I will put down a number of fruits on the floor. When they are all on the floor I will touch my mouth. When I touch my mouth everyone say or hold up the number of how many fruits are on the floor.
TEST:
I will say each child’s name to let you know its your turn. Each friend will tell me how many fruits are on the floor, then let me know how many were in the story. This way we will be practicing taking turns, just like you will on the computer.
DIFFERENTIATION:
All students will be paired with a partner who will be able to assist with turn taking or touching the numbers. During the lesson, children will have numbers to indicate the number while they say with number expressively. Also one child has an Itouch to assist with verbally saying the number.

5. Lesson closing:
Closing Power point Slide:
Remember we are working retelling the number of fruits in the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. When your schedule has a computer picture on it, you will go to the computer with your friend. Remember we are going to take turns touching the number of the fruits the caterpillar ate in the story. If you get an answer wrong, the power point will tell you to try again.

7. Evaluation:
During the next week we will be reviewing and rereading the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I along with my paraprofessionals will record each student’s turn taking goals, and the number of times correctly retelling the story with the numeral. Objectives will be evaluated based on the IEP goals for each student (i.e. some students may only need to complete the activity 16/20 times to gain 100% accuracy).
